I had the pleasure of developing a brand identity system for magician and performer Justin Valdez. The project included a custom business card, logo refinements, and social media assets designed to reflect his unique style of illusion and professionalism. The goal was to create a brand presence that was bold, modern, and distinct from a “children’s magician” aesthetic.
Research & Discovery
Studied Justin’s existing digital presence and logo to understand his aesthetic. The challenge was to position him as a respected event performer rather than a children’s entertainer.
Logo & Typography
Built upon Justin’s existing logo and carried its style into the brand system. Chose Baron Neue Black for impact and paired it with Agenda One for readability and balance.
Visual Inspiration
Inspired by Justin’s love for playing cards, I incorporated a mirrored portrait concept reminiscent of classic card royalty to emphasize his magical identity.
Color Palette
Selected bold, refined colors paired with ample negative space to strike a balance between intrigue and professionalism.
Business Card Development
Created multiple prototypes that balanced contact information, social presence, and breathing room. Integrated a QR code for accessibility and left space for Justin to write personal “predictions” during performances — making the card itself an interactive part of his act.
The final identity system provides Justin with a consistent and professional presence across print and digital platforms, capturing his love for illusion while reinforcing his credibility as a performer.
